The Block Theme Preview
Organic Themes is excited to announce a new theme concept — the Block Theme! The theme is currently in the final design stages before moving to development. We are planning to release the theme next month and wanted to introduce a few teaser images in the meantime. It will be a tight, block style design with clean and modern aesthetics. The theme features a unique 3 column layout with featured articles of the desired category displayed in both the left sidebar and main content column. It will also feature a unique and stylish featured content slider that will be controlled within the Organic Theme options. The Block Theme will be created for the design conscious crowd, and appeal to wide variety of businesses within that demographic.
What Is The Post Thumbnail And Why Is It Awesome?
With the release of WordPress 2.9, the Post Thumbnail function was implemented in to the platform. It automatically re-sizes images for perfect placement within a site. In the past, this effect could be achieved by the use of custom fields and a script known as TimThumb. It was a decent workaround, but a cumbersome process, incompatible with some servers and a chunky bit of code that could potentially increase loading times. For people new to the WordPress platform, working with custom fields can be a confusing process. Even for the veterans it’s annoying trying to manage multiple custom field names. Post Thumbnail is the answer to all of these problems.

We are very excited to announce the launch of Organic Themes — a fresh new premium WordPress theme shop! In fact, excited is a huge understatement. We have been working on Organic Themes for the greater portion of 2009 and 2010. Our goal has been to create a theme shop that offers fresh new designs and resources for the WordPress community, and we’re stoked to see it come to fruition. Rather than releasing many mediocre themes within a short time, our focus is to release one spectacular new theme per month while providing updates to our existing themes with new color options, layouts and taking advantage of the constant new features from WordPress.
