Tasteful Theme

General Setup

Installation

To install the Tasteful Theme you must first have a working WordPress(.org) installation. For information on installing WordPress, please see Installing WordPress, from the WordPress Codex. Once WordPress has been setup in your hosting environment, you can install your theme one of two ways:

FTP upload: download and un-zip your theme folder, and using the FTP program of your choice upload the theme folder to the ‘../wp-content/themes/’ folder on your server.

WordPress dashboard: download your theme and sign into your WordPress dashboard (e.g., yourdomain.com/wp-admin). Navigate to Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload, and select your zipped theme folder, click “Install Now”. Once the theme is uploaded you will need to activate it, either with the provided link or under Appearance > Themes.

Note: If you use Safari as your primary browser you may find that your theme folder is not zipped after downloading it. You will need to re-compress your theme folder before initiating the second installation process.

Plugins

The Jetpack plugin may optionally be used for displaying projects on the Portfolio page template, and testimonials on Testimonials page template.

Note: The contact form is powered by Gravity Forms, an excellent premium WordPress contact form plugin (free alternatives include ‘Contact Form 7’ and ‘Jetpack Forms’). If you want to make use of the shop portion of the theme you will need to install WooCommerce.

Demo Content (Optional)

You can install the theme demo content to be used as a guide with the .xml file available for download below. Please refer to the following tutorial for instructions on installing your demo content: Installing Demo Content

Home Blog Setup

Featured Content Slider

A featured content slideshow may be displayed at the top of the home blog. The theme uses the featured content slider from Jetpack under Appearance > Customize > Featured Content. Jetpack must be installed for this feature to be active.

Alternatively, you may choose a featured slide category to display in the slideshow under Appearance > Customize > Theme Options > Featured Content.

Featured Pages

Up to 3 featured pages may be displayed on the home blog underAppearance > Customize > Theme Options > Featured Content. When a Featured Image is added to a featured page, the image will be displayed as the background with the page title on top.

Post Formats

The theme provides 4 post formats — Standard, Image, Video and Gallery. Each format will display post content on your blog in a unique way.

Standard

Standard format posts with a featured image will display at full width with the content on top of the featured image. Standard formats without a featured image will display in up to 3 columns if they are next to each other.

Image

Image format posts will display an image link on the left, with content on the right.

Video

Video format posts will featured the first video added to the content. It will be featured on the left, with content on the right. If a featured image is added to a video format post, it will be displayed as a background image with the content on top.

Gallery

Gallery post formats will display an image slideshow from the first gallery added to the content. The slideshow will display on the left, with the content on the right.

Page Template Setup

Page Templates

Please see our ‘Quick Start Guide’ for setting up the theme’s various page templates.

The theme contains a Portfolio page template that uses Jetpack custom post types to display projects. Alternatively, if you do not have Jetpack installed, you may select a post category for the portfolio under Appearance > Customize > Theme Options > Page Template Options. You may choose the column layouts for the Portfolio page template under Appearance > Customize > Theme Options > Layout.

Testimonials

The theme contains a Testimonials page template that uses Jetpack custom post types to display testimonials. Alternatively, if you do not have Jetpack installed, you may select a post category for the testimonials under Appearance > Customize > Theme Options > Page Template Options.

Slideshow

An image slideshow can be added to the top of a page using the Slideshow page template. Within the page editor, create a gallery using the Add Media button. Insert that gallery into the page content, and the page template will automatically create a slideshow from the gallery. You can manage the position of images within the gallery editor.
